Devon Collections

A collection can be a body of resources held in a library, museum or archive, or collections held within such a body of resources, ranging from collections of several thousand items to single items made up of more than one separately published item, such as a file of cuttings, an extra-illustrated set of volumes or a bound volume of pamphlets, playbills or periodical articles. The present listing includes (at the end of 2018) 27 archive collections, 80 libraries and 62 museum collections, 15 of these in houses normally open to the public. Some of these contain the 179 collections which are also listed. In addition 93 local studies societies are listed, most of them affiliated to the Devon History Society. While these do not always hold collections, many work closely with museums, libraries and archives and a considerable body of both collected resources and expertise is scattered across their members.
